Please, support a local polish small children’s boutique “Birdy Boutique”

Press release

Only 5% of small businesses ever get on retail shelves at large stores and we are making it happen! I could not be more proud of our team and how hard we have worked all year to make this a reality!

Please, support a local polish small children’s boutique Birdy Boutique that gets on shelves at Lowe’s next year! Basia Kent and Joasia Serra are the owners. They grew up here in Detroit Polonia and now have a very successful business that is growing!

Our certified disabled-veteran metro Detroit business has been selected for the Top 15 with “Making It With Lowe’s” Small Business national competition; a program that highlights and supports diverse small businesses! If selected, we would automatically move up and pitch to Daymond John from Shark Tank and the Lowe’s Executive Team to have our learning blankets on shelves in the home decor section of Lowe’s.

We are asking for support from you today! As a small certified veteran organization, this would spread the word on Lowe’s diversity program, which supports and mentors small businesses, aligning perfectly with your organization’s news stories. Our hopes are that together we can continue to spread the word of the need to support minority businesses, especially on a national scale like this!

Is there an opportunity to assist us with sharing this program and informing others while hopefully at the same time helping us with votes?

Being selected for this pitch competition is meaningful for Birdy Boutique as a proudly certified disabled-veteran and women-owned small business. Birdy Boutique’s Founder & CEO, Barbara Kent, is a disabled Army veteran with 13 years of service, a wife to an active duty Soldier, and a mom of two. She began sewing as a way to challenge herself after leaving the Army and joined forces with her sister, Joanna Serra, to begin selling their creations. When they could not keep up with demand, they started to mass produce their unique products. They now offer several children’s items that inspire kids to play, learn and explore. Their family immigrated to the United States in 1988 where they grew up in poor circumstances and realized what a huge role education would play in their lives.

Barbara went on to graduate from West Point and serve in the military as a Military Police officer. Since then, education and continuous learning have played a large part in their lives and inspired the creation of products with the purpose for children.

Birdy Boutique’s flagship product line is our learning blankets, which are being considered for shelves at Lowe’s. Packed with tons of facts and various topics, these learning blankets are a great educational tool loved by kids, parents, and educators alike. Birdy Boutique had its largest growth year yet; spearheading pitches to supplier diversity teams of mass retailers. Birdy Boutique is proud to have been featured in over 100 online publications such as Forbes, CNN, and Today.com!
