Announcement of Legal Representation

The Tygodnik Polski (Polish Weekly) is pleased to announce that it will be represented by H. William Burdett Jr. of the law firm Boyle Burdett in the lawsuit brought against the paper by Ms. Anita M. Dul the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the PAC Federal Credit Union. Mr. Burdett is cooperating with the Michigan – American Civil Liberties Union in representing the paper.

October is Polish Heritage Month

During the month of October, many Americans will be celebrating their Polish roots. The most significant celebration during this period is related to the many Pułaski Day celebrations throughout the country including major cities like Chicago, New York, Philadelphia etc. There will also be many commemorations of Kazimierz Pułaski within Detroit Polonia.       Kazimierz Pułaski, who is recognized as the “Father of the American Cavalry” died on October 15, 1779 as the results of being mortally wounded at the Battle of Savannah on October 9, 1779. If not for the heroic action of General Kazimierz Pułaski on September 11, 1777 at the Battle of Brandywine, George Washington may have been captured or fallen in battle and the American cavalry would have experienced a disastrous loss.

On October 1, 1608 the fist Poles in America arrived in America on the English ship Margret and Mary at Jamestown, Virginia. This arrival of Poles in America has been the subject of considerable controversy. However the weight of evidence has gradually moved toward supporting this unusual although correct description of American history. We will have more to say about the Jamestown Poles in a future issue of Tygodnik Polski.
In the next issue we will continue to have more information on events celebrating October as Polish Heritage Month.

Lawsuit against Tygodnik Polski

Recently a lawsuit has been filed against Tygodnik Polski by Ms. Anita Dul who is the Chief Operating Officer of the PAC Federal Credit Union. We believe that her charges are baseless and without merit. We believe that Tygodnik Polski has operated in a professional manner. This lawsuit will not prevent us from printing disclosures about Ms. Dul which we believe are important considerations in her continuing role as COO of the PAC Federal Credit Union. She is a public figure and as such her actions are subject to appropriate scrutiny.       Yes, the rights of Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press even apply to a small Polish American newspaper such as Tygodnik Polski. However, as you all know that Freedom is not free.  In order to maintain your right to know and to maintain Freedom of the Press, we will need to defend ourselves in court against this baseless and harassing lawsuit. Consequently a fund has been established for the legal defense of Tygodnik Polski.  For those of you who choose to donate we will use your funds wisely and whatever is not used will be returned in the proportion to which it was contributed.

We wish to thank those who have already contributed. Thank you so much for your thoughts, best wishes and caring.
The check should be made out to The Polish Weekly Legal Defense Fund  and sent to our mailing address:
